1999 USI graduate Stan Gouard has been named the 10th head basketball coach in USI program history. Over the past 12 years Gouard has lifted the U Indy Basketball program to national prominence. This includes 8 NCAA Division 2 appearances, mulktiple All Americans and a number one ranking, he was also the 2014 GLVC Coach of the year. He replaces Rodney Watson who retired March 23 as USIs longest tenured mens basketball coach.
The NTT INDYCAR Series will return to Indianapolis Motor Speedway for a third event in 2020.
The Frontier League which includes the Evansville Otters announced yesterday (Wednesday) they are delaying the scheduled May 14 start of the season. The League will become the largest independent baseball league in North America after merging with the Can Am League in the off season. The League statement stated they will continue to monitor the situation and will announce a start for the season at an appropriate time.
In the Council of Presidents meeting yesterday Oakland City University was approved in its move from NCAA Division 2 to NAIA. They were one of five teams to be approved. They will play in the River States Conference. The Conference rebranded in 2016 and was formerly called the Kentucky Interscholastic Athletic Conference. Oakland City played in that conference from 1968 to 1975.
