Patoka lake Bow Hunters will host a "30" Target 3D shoot this coming Saturday and Sunday June 15th & 16th at the Patoka Lake Archery Range near Wickliffe. Participants should use the main entrance to Patoka Lake off State Road 164. Registration on Sunday starts at Daylight till 12:00pm. Shooting fees are $8.00 for Active PLB members, $10.00 for Nonmembers and $5.00 for Youth (age 11-17) while Cubs (10 & younger) and Active Military shoot for free. Celebrate Nature Play Day all day June 14 by creating nature art at the Nature Center. Kid’s bring your creativity and the staff at Patoka Lake will supply the rest!

Join the naturalist for a special Father’s Day Program Sunday June 16. Learn about the roles of different dads in the wild. Make a craft to give to the dad that you are wild about!

Celebrate National Bald Eagle Day Thursday June 20 form 6-8 PM on the waters of Patoka. Join the naturalist for an evening tour traveling up river that will start at Wall’s Lake Boat Ramp. Meet the naturalist at the Patoka Lake Office to car caravan to the boat ramp. Caravan will leave promptly at 4:50p.m. Participants should plan to arrive at the ramp no later than 5:45p.m. to prepare their boats and equipment for the tour. Non-motorized boat launch permits are required and will be sold at the event for $5, but may also be purchased at the Patoka Office from 8a.m. – 4p.m. daily.

Wyandotte Caves is offering people a chance to beat the heat this summer by going underground, where the temperature is a cool 52 degrees all year. Jackets are recommended for all cave tours due to the cool temperature. Remember to wear comfortable and sturdy shoes. Pets, alcohol, and tobacco use are strictly prohibited in the caves.  Big Wyandotte Cave is closed from Labor Day to Memorial Day weekend to protect hibernating Indiana bats.

Each summer, wildlife biologists and citizen scientists count the number of young wild turkeys (poults) with turkey hens in what are termed “brood surveys.” These surveys provide the DNR with information about turkey poult survival and help them make informed decisions about wild turkey management. This summer, their goal is to collect 3,000 brood observation reports from citizens across the state. The survey runs from July 1 to August 31, 2019. If you are interested in participating, please register after June 10. Help them keep track of our wild turkey populations by participating in this survey and spreading the word.

Celebrate National Selfie Day by participating in Patoka’s Selfie Scavenger Hunt Friday June 21 from 9 AM – 2:30 PM. Travel by car or foot to destinations around the property. Earn points for each stop you make and take a selfie. Show the naturalists your selfies and earn prizes. All photos must be presented by 2:30p.m. Pick up your scavenger hunt sheet at the Nature Center.

Look for the naturalists at the boat ramps on Saturday June 22 from 9:30 AM – 2:30 PM. They will be traveling around with a water trivia game. Prizes will be awarded as you launch your vessels into the lake! Step into the backyard of the Nature Center from 10 AM – 3 PM for a close look at two non- releasable birds of prey. Meet the educational ambassadors close up in the backyard at 1 PM. Learn of their wild capabilities. Hear their stories of survival.
