Wallace “W.P.” Paul Norris, 85, of Montgomery

W.P. was a man who loved the Lord with all his heart. His faith was a central part of his life, and he understood the depth of God’s grace and mercy. One phrase he often said was, “Better than I deserve.” Those simple words reflected his humble heart and his gratitude of God’s grace, never taking the blessings in his life for granted. 

After graduating from high school, W.P. entered the United States Marine Corps, beginning a life of service that would take him to many different places. During his years in the Marines, one of his favorite experienced while stationed in Japan was spending time helping at a local orphanage. He found great joy in those children and loved making them laugh and spending time with them. He often played dominoes with the children, and they eventually came to call the game the “Norris game.” Those children held a special place in his heart, and the memories of those times remained with him throughout his life. 

W.P. lived in several places throughout his years before eventually settling in Jacksonville, Florida. It was during a military conference that he would eventually find his way to Montgomery, Indiana. While attending the conference, he was offered an opportunity to teach electrical at Crane, bringing him to Indiana and beginning another important chapter of his life. 

One of the most meaningful moments of W.P.’s life came during a trip when he saw a large sign advertising a musical extravaganza near Jacksonville. As he traveled down the road, he notices several men struggling to put up a large Army tent. W.P., who had plenty of experience and was always willing to lend a helping hand, stopped to assist them. Afterward, the men thanked him for his help and invited him to come back that evening to hear the music. 

W.P. returned that night, not knowing that he was walking into something far greater than a musical event—he was walking into a revival meeting. That evening, W.P. gave his life to the Lord and was saved. From that night forward, his life was forever changed. He spent every opportunity he had serving the Lord and sharing his faith, faithfully seeking to be a blessing to others. 
 

W.P. was also a very giving man who freely shared his time, kindness, and generosity with others. He was an important part of Providence Mennonite Church, where his faith, service, and willingness to help others made a lasting difference. His church family held a special place in his heart. 

Those who knew W.P. will remember his stories, his sense of humor, his generous spirit, and the many memories he created. He had a way of making people laugh and leaving an impression on those around him. His stories will continue to be told, and the memories he made will be cherished. 

W.P. proudly served his country as a United States Marine for 30 years. His dedication, loyalty, and commitment to his country were a significant part of his life. He carried great pride in his service and remained a Marine at heart throughout his life. W.P. leaves behind a legacy of faith, service, generosity, and love. He will be sadly missed by his church family, friends, and all those whose lives he touched throughout the years. He was preceded in death by his parents and several siblings.
