Rita Louise Lents, 85, of Loogootee

Rita Louise Lents, 85, of Loogootee, Indiana, passed away peacefully on Friday, March 13, 2026 at Sycamore Care Strategies in Loogootee.

Born on July 21, 1940 in Loogootee, Indiana, she was the beloved daughter to Adrian and Josephine (Spaulding) Greenwell.  On March 5, 1962, she married Edward Lents.

Rita was a caring person who always thought of others. She led an active life and held a variety of jobs, most of them centered on serving her community. Over the years she worked at local banks, in the community school system, and as a beautician for several years, before finally retiring from Prairie Farms so she could spend more time with her beloved husband as he retired.

Family meant everything to Rita, and she took great joy in caring for and spending time with her children and grandchildren. She enjoyed baking, gardening, crocheting, and working puzzles. For more than 30 years, she looked forward to Thursday night Bunco with friends. She was also a member of the Red Hat Society for many years and a lifelong member of St. John the Evangelist Church.

Rita was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, two brothers: Harold and Kenneth Greenwell.  She will be lovingly remembered by her children: Douglas (Mari) Lents, Daniel Lents, and Dennis (Jenny) Lents; grandchildren: Patricia (Bobby) Moore, Curtis (Lisa) Lents, Adriene Lents, Matthew Lents, Carly (Alec) Evers, great-grandchildren: Landon Lents, London Johnson, Ty Moore, Tegan Moore, Nash Lents, Bennett Lents, and Lila Lents.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Very Rev. J. Kenneth Walker at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, March 18, 2026, at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, with burial to follow in St. John Catholic Cemetery. Visitation will be held on the same day from 9:00 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. at the church.
