Richard A. Schwenk, age 74, of Otwell

Richard A. Schwenk, age 74, of Otwell, Indiana, passed away surrounded by family at 6:13 p.m. on Sunday, May 4, 2025, at St. Vincent Burn Center in Indianapolis, Indiana.

Rich was born in Huntingburg, Indiana, on February 13, 1951, to Rufus and Marie (Burger) Schwenk. He married Brenda Wigand. She preceded him in death on March 23, 2009.

He was a 1969 graduate from Ireland High School.He served in the National Guard for 6 years.

Rich retired as a coal miner. He then worked for the union and bailed hay as a farmer. Rich was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, the Jasper Moose, the American Legion Post #147 and the Ireland K of C.

He enjoyed having a good time with all his friends. Rich was a wonderful man who would do anything for anyone. He never said, “no,” and loved making his rounds to his family during the holidays and special events.

Rich is survived by two brothers: Donnie (Bonny) Schwenk, Jasper; and Sam (Shelly) Schwenk, Ireland; sister, Sue Schum, Ireland, two sisters-in-law: Bonnie Schwenk and Anna Mae Schwenk, and nieces and nephews: Brad, Alan, and Phil Schwenk, Annette Hedinger, Alicia Mruthyunjaya, Clint Schwenk, Eric Schum, Kimberly Schroeder, Ryan and Justin Schwenk, Lauren Baglan, Courtney Vall, Shannon Hagedorn, and Chad Schwenk.

Besides his wife, he is preceded in death by two brothers: John and Kenneth Schwenk and niece, Angie Weidenbenner. The family would like to extend their appreciation to Dr. Brett Hartman and the staff at Eskonazi Burn Center.

A Mass of Christian Burial for Richard A. Schwenk will be held at 12:00 p.m. on Thursday, May 8, 2025, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Jasper, Indiana, with interment to follow in Fairview Cemetery Mausoleum. The American Legion Post #147 will conduct military gravesite rites.

A visitation will be held from 9:00 a.m. until the 12:00 p.m. (Mass time) at the church on Thursday.Memorial contributions may be made to St. Joseph Catholic Church or a favorite charity.
