Rebecca Knies Schaefer, age 78 of Tucson

Rebecca Knies Schaefer, age 78 of Tucson, Arizona, formerly of Huntingburg, Indiana, passed away Tuesday, 16 June 2026, at Northwest Medical Center, Tucson, Arizona. 

She was born 13 October 1947 in Huntingburg, Indiana, to Charles and Marjorie (Nordhoff) Knies. She married Richard Schaefer on 28 May 1966 at St. Joseph Catholic Church of Vanderburgh County, Indiana. 

She worked at Personal Finance (formerly Citizen’s Finance) for 30 years in Jasper, Indiana. A devout Catholic, Becky was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Huntingburg as well as St. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Tucson. Becky served as a eucharistic minister and a member of the RCIA team, as well as a member of Millions of Monicas’ Group, and with the Daughters of the Immaculata. She served on the Huntingburg Park Board and co-chaired the inaugural Huntingburg Herbstfest 5K run/walk. Upon moving to Tucson, she volunteered with Reading Seed for Tucson Public Schools, at St. Peter and Paul School, Lulu Walker School, and Miles Elementary School. 

Surviving are her husband, Richard; daughter Deborah (Dan Carr); granddaughter Anna Carr; siblings Deborah (Donald) Neu, David (Janice) Knies, Carla (Joseph) Hoffman, Chad (Kathy) Knies, and Rachel (Perry) Welp; sister-in-law Linda (Tom) Overbay; brother-in-law Mark Spore; and many nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, and a great-great niece. 

Preceding her in death were her parents, brother Donald, and daughter Tina Louise. 

Mass will be held on Saturday, July 25 at 10:00 a.m., St. Mary’s Catholic Church of Huntingburg, Indiana, with burial to follow in the St. Mary’s Cemetery.
