Melvin “Pops” L. Linette, age 74, of Coatesville

Melvin “Pops” L. Linette, age 74, of Coatesville, Indiana, formally of Ireland, Indiana, passed away surrounded by family at 10:50 a.m. on Saturday, September 19, 2026, at Hendricks Regional Health in Danville, Indiana.

Mel was born in Jasper, Indiana, on December 16, 1951, to Theodore and Dorothy (Wigand) Linette. He married Teresa “Susie” Chastain on August 21, 2010. 

He was a 1969 Ireland High School graduate. He was a member of the Ireland Spud’s Basketball Team. He went St. Louis where he became a certified mechanic. He worked for Hopf Himsel as a car mechanic for a number of years and then started Linette Pools where he was owner an operator for more than 30 years. 

He was a Grand Knight at the Ireland K of C as well as a member of the Experimental Aircraft Association “EAA,” and the Ireland Sportsman Club.Mel enjoyed flying airplanes, mini rod tractor pulls, Nascar races, motorcycles, and spending time with friends and family. He gave a lot of his time helping others. He loved his animals and couldn’t pass a dog on the street without petting it. 

His favorite quote was, “I’ve done so much with so little for so long, I could do almost anything with nothing.”  

He is survived by his wife, Susie Linette, Coatesville; one son, Joshua Linette, Jasper; one stepson, Derek (Tawni) Traughber, Coatesville, step-daughter, Amy (Richard) French, Graham, North Carolina; six grandchildren: Morgan (Ethan) Silverthorn, Haley Meeks, Kaden Traughber, Jorden Harris, Jessa French, Jenna French, and great-granddaughter, Avery Silverthorn, two brothers: Bill Linette and Mike (Donna) Linette, and 12 nieces and nephews.

He preceded in death by one brother, Richard Linette, and sister-in-law, Judy Linette.

A Mass of Christian Burial for Melvin L. Linette will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, September 25, 2026, at St. Mary Catholic Church in Ireland. A burial will be held at a later date.A visitation will be held from 8:30 a.m. until the 11:00 a.m. service at the church on Friday.Memorial contributions may be made the Ireland K of C or the Putnam County Animal Care.
