Mary Margaret Walton, 74, of Loogootee

She was born on March 27, 1952, in Loogootee, Indiana to Willis and Mary Hembree. Mary married Terry Walton on September 18, 1971. 

Mary was a woman of strong faith whose love for her family guided her throughout her life. She was a member of Loogootee Methodist Church, where she was always willing to serve others. She especially enjoyed helping prepare funeral meals, offering comfort and kindness to families during difficult times. Mary truly had a servant’s heart and was always looking for ways to help those around her. 

Mary dedicated many years to the Loogootee community through her work with Loogootee Community Schools. She retired after a fulfilling career serving in several roles, including athletic department secretary, Loogootee Community Schools Corporation Treasurer, and substitute teacher. She touched the lives of many students, families, and colleagues through her compassion, dedication, and willingness to help. 

Family was at the center of Mary’s life. She loved her family dearly and especially cherished being a grandmother and a great grandmother. One of her greatest joys was watching her grandchildren play sports. She could often be found in the stands cheering them on, whether they were playing Loogootee sports or traveling to Noblesville to support them. She was always their biggest supporter and took great pride in their accomplishments. 

Mary also loved to cook and took great joy in preparing Sunday dinners for her family. Gathering around the table with the people she loved was a special part of her life, creating memories that her family will treasure for years to come. 

Mary’s generous spirit, unwavering faith, love for her family, famous chocolate chip cookies, and willingness to serve others left a lasting impression on everyone who knew her. She will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by her family and friends, and the many people whose lives she touched. 

Her legacy of faith, love, service, and family will continue to live on in all who were blessed to know her.
