Mary Ann Bawel, age 93, of Jasper

Mary Ann Bawel, age 93, of Jasper, Indiana, passed away surrounded by family at 1:20 p.m. on Friday, August 21, 2026, at Deaconess Gateway Hospital in Newburgh, Indiana.

Mary Ann was born in Bristow, Indiana, on December 14, 1932, to Carl and Evelyn (Mayfield) Witte. She married Ray Bawel on January 2, 1954. He preceded her in death on July 4, 2024.

She was a Jasper High School graduate. She went on to receive her bachelor’s degree from Stephens College in Missouri.She was a devoted wife for 70 years. She dedicated her life to raising her four boys and helped care for her grandchildren.

She was a member of Trinity United Church of Christ.Mary Ann enjoyed her family. She loved following her grandchildren and great-grandchildren in all their endeavors. Her door was always open for family and friends to come and visit. She enjoyed reading- especially her Bible, and enjoyed vacations in Florida.

She is survived by three sons: Doug Bawel (Suellen), Jasper; Brad (Sara) Bawel, Jasper; and Zach (Linda) Bawel, Jasper; daughter-in-law, Beth Bawel, Jasper; 16 grandchildren, and 36 great-grandchildren, two brothers: Bud Witte and Mike Witte and sister, Nancy DeLuca.Besides her husband, she is preceded in death by her son Jeffrey Bawel.

A funeral service for Mary Ann Bawel will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Monday, August 31, 2026, at Trinity United Church of Christ in Jasper, Indiana, with entombment to follow in Fairview Cemetery Mausoleum. Dr. Pastor Elisabeth Baer will officiate.

A visitation will be held from 9:00 a.m. until the 11:30 a.m. service time on Monday, August 21, at Trinity United Church of Christ.
