Margaret Jo Peregrine, 91

Margaret was born on September 12, 1933 in Amboy, IN to Ralph and Pauline (Larrison) Childers. She was married to Carl Eugene Showalter from 1954-1976. 

She was then united in marriage to Marion Lee Peregrine in May, 1980 in Dale, IN. Marion preceded her in death in October, 2018. 

Margaret was a retired teacher who served in several school districts over many years. She earned her Bachelor’s Degree in Elementary Education from Manchester College and her Master’s Degree from Indiana University in Early Childhood Development. 

Margaret loved her family and friends, children and her faith community. She enjoyed genealogy and sewing, creating many quilts, blankets, and gifts for loved ones. Her favorite pastimes included spending winters in Florida, taking long walks, birdwatching, admiring the beauty of flowers and traveling. 

Surviving are her children: Melody Vaal of Santa Claus, IN, Joy (Stephen) Adams and Daniel (Kim Bateman) Showalter, both of Shoals, IN. Seven grandchildren, Sarah (Shane) Vaal Webb, Marcus (Karen) Vaal, Colin (Dina) Vaal, Adam Showalter, Brady (Jennifer) Showalter, Ethan Adams and Shaelin (Vincent) Adams Cross; seven great-grandchildren and one great-great grandchild, one brother, Paul “PD” (Charleen) Childers of Converse, IN. She was also survived by many step-children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.  

She was preceded in death by her parents; a sister, Alice Ferree; and a son-in-law, Randy Vaal. 

A private graveside service will be held at a later date. Burial will be in Rankin Cemetery, near Peru, IN. 

In lieu of gifts or flowers, memorial contributions may be made to a favorite charity in Margaret’s memory.
