Malcolm G. Baker, 92, of Loogootee
Malcolm G. Baker, 92, of Loogootee, Indiana, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, February 24, 2026, at Sycamore Care Strategies in Loogootee, Indiana, with his family by his side.
He was born on October 23, 1933, in Moville, Iowa. Malcolm was the beloved son of Ralph and Clara (Wininger) Baker. On January 31, 1952, he married the great love of his life, Doris Jean (Hembree) Baker and they spent 72 years together.
He graduated from Alfordsville High School in 1951 and carried a deep, unwavering faith in Jesus Christ throughout his life. Guided by that faith and a heart for service, Malcolm became an active and devoted member of Alfordsville Assembly of God Church, where he faithfully served as both Deacon and Treasurer.
His working years took him in many different directions. He was employed by the State of Indiana, worked in factory settings, and served as an EMT. No matter the role, he was known for his strong work ethic and willingness to help others. He was especially dedicated to assisting his son, Kevin, with his mowing business—so much so that many said he would still be out mowing today if he were able.
Malcolm was also a devoted fan of I.U. and the Colts, and he found great joy in camping and gardening.
Malcolm was preceded in death by his wife, Doris; his parents; one infant son, Mark Stephen Baker; Brothers: Vachel E. Baker, Dallas E. Baker, Forest V. Baker, and sister Hazel L. Lyons.
He will be lovingly remembered by his two sons: Gene (Debbie) Baker and Kevin (Donna) Baker; grandchildren: Angela (Darrel) Smith, Paul Baker, Mandy (Josh) Fee, Allison (Dusty) Robinson, Jared (Patience) Baker; 8 great-grandchildren; and 1 great-great grandchild.
