Louise “Lou” E. Schaeffer, 79, of St. Henry

Lou was born September 11, 1940 in Jasper to Emil and Lucille (Wehr) Burger. She married Dennis A. Schaeffer on November 22, 1962 in Jasper. 

He preceded her in death on January 11, 2018.  Lou was a Nurse for 47 years at St. Joseph’s Hospital. She was a 1961 Graduate of St. Mary’s Nursing Program. Lou was a CPR instructor and Parish Nurse for Christ the King Parish. She was a member of Christ the King Parish, St. Henry Church, Christian Mothers and Red Hats Society. Lou was a 4H Leader for 25 years. 

She enjoyed gardening, reading and spending time with her grandkids. Lou is survived by a son, Nick (Cassie) Schaeffer of St. Henry; two daughters, Shelly (Ed) Boeglin of Huntingburg and Melissa (Kevin) Mehringer of Jasper; three brothers, Don Burger of Terre Haute, Jim (Carol) Burger of Blacksburg, VA. and Ted (Carol) Burger of Fairland, IN.; four sisters, Rosie (Dan) Nichols of Franklin, KY., Margaret Kuczynski of Chapel Hill, NC., Dorothy Kidwell of Huntingburg and Sadie (Ray) Harpenau of St. Henry; seven grandchildren. 

Funeral services will be Thursday at 10:00 AM in St. Henry Catholic Church with burial to follow in the church cemetery. 

Visitation will be Wednesday from 3-8:00 PM and Thursday from 7-9:30 AM at Becher Funeral Home.
