Lelah Mae Barnett, age 87, of Folsomville, passed away Tuesday, July 28, 2026, at the Linda E. White Hospice House surrounded by her family.
Lelah was born in Ft. Knox, Kentucky, to Charlotte Enlow Hildreth and George Meeks on May 4, 1939. She is survived by her daughter, Mary Barnett Thomas (Michael) of Fayetteville, North Carolina; son, Jerry Joe Barnett II (Jill) of Evansville; four grandchildren, Ashley and Luke Thomas, Andrew and Allison Barnett; sister, Lou Neff of Boonville; niece, Jackie Kress of Santa Claus; nephew, Todd Neff of Boonville; and by numerous great, great-great, and great-great-great nieces and nephews. She was affectionately known as Aunt Mae to all of them.
She is preceded in death by her parents; sister, Beulah Oskins; niece, LaDonna Santiago; great- nephew, Jacob Marks; and a special friend, Robert White of Evansville.
Lelah cherished sharing her family's rich history with relatives and friends, ensuring its stories and traditions were passed down through the generations. She was a proud 1956 graduate of Dale High School and remained deeply connected to her alma mater throughout her life. Lelah was a member of the General Grand Chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star, Chrisney Chapter #357.
Over the years, she was employed at Boonville Convalescent Center, the United States Postal Service in Boonville, and Della Dee's Fashion. Lelah took great pride in creating a warm, welcoming, and immaculate home for her children. She also enjoyed dancing with her dear friend, Bob, whenever they had the opportunity. A compassionate animal lover, Lelah opened her heart to a neighborhood cat she affectionately named Midnight, who became a beloved companion.
Visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m., C.D.T., on Tuesday, August 4, 2026, at Rainey Funeral Home in Dale. Burial will follow at Garden of Memories Cemetery in Gentryville.
