Lawrence “Larry” E. Mehringer, age 76

Lawrence “Larry” E. Mehringer, age 76, passed away at home surrounded by family at 5:45 a.m. on Monday, August 31, 2026.

Larry was born in Ireland, Indiana, on September 14, 1949, to Marvin and Eugenia (Sermersheim) Mehringer.  He married his wife, Kathy Hess, on August 5, 1972, at St. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Haubstadt, Indiana.

He was a 1967 graduate of Ireland High School.He was a United States Veteran, serving in the Army Reserves.

He was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church in Jasper, where he was on the bereavement committee.  He was also a member of the V.F.W. Post #673, American Legion Post #147, Jasper K of C, and the Jasper Outdoor Recreation and was a volunteer at the St. Vincent de Paul food bank.

Larry enjoyed watching golf, St. Louis Cardinals baseball, and IU Basketball.  He liked to fish, and loved watching his grandchildren play sports.

He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Kathy Mehringer, Jasper, IN, one son, Brian (Angie) Mehringer, Huntingburg, IN, one daughter, Shelly (John) West, Yorktown, IN, five grandchildren, Elizabeth and Samuel Mehringer and Jackson, Lane, and Caden West, eight siblings, Patty Beck, Ireland, IN, Donna Slade, of Georgia, Connie (Joe) Gutzweiler, Newburgh, IN, Steve (Paula) Mehringer, of Georgia, Duane Mehringer, Jasper, IN, Karen (Tom) Neuhoff, St. Anthony, IN, Mark Mehringer, Jasper, IN, and Debbie Mehringer, Jasper, IN, and many nieces and nephews.

Preceding him in death is one grandson, Tristan Mehringer, one brother, Kurt Mehringer and two brothers-in-law, Denny Beck and Dean Slade.

A Mass of Christian Burial for Lawrence “Larry” E. Mehringer will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, September 5, 2026, at Holy Family Catholic Church in Jasper, Indiana, with burial to follow in Shiloh Cemetery in Jasper.  The V.F.W. Post #673 will conduct military graveside rites.

A visitation will be held from 9:00 a.m. until the 11:00 a.m. Mass time at the church on Saturday.
