John Anthony Walker, 83, of Loogootee

John Anthony Walker, 83, of Loogootee, Indiana, passed away on Wednesday, October 28, 2026 at his residence.

He was born in Cannelburg, Indiana on October 26, 1943 to the late Bernard and Anna Walker. John married Judy McCann on June 26, 1965.

John graduated from Montgomery High School in 1961 and went on to attend Indiana State University, where he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Education in 1965. He continued his education at Indiana State, earning a master’s degree and a six-year certificate in guidance counseling. He began his career in education, teaching at Rockville, North Knox, and Loogootee High Schools. John enjoyed working with his students and took pride in the relationships he built throughout his teaching career. He later transitioned to the insurance industry, where he served his clients with dedication before retiring from Farm Bureau Insurance after 20 years of service.

John was a faithful member of St. John the Evangelist Church and generously volunteered his time at the St. Vincent de Paul food pantry, reflecting his desire to serve others and give back to his community.

John truly embraced retirement. He loved traveling with his beloved wife, Judy, especially spending winters in Florida, and treasured the time they shared. Together, they celebrated 61 beautiful years of love, companionship, and memories. He also enjoyed playing golf at Country Oaks, where he looked forward to his time with the group he affectionately called “the old man’s league.”

A very social and outgoing man, John had a special gift for making people feel welcome. He never met a stranger and could strike up a conversation with just about anyone. Whether connecting with former students, insurance clients, friends, or new acquaintances, John had a genuine interest in people and a way of making those around him feel like old friends.

Above all else, John loved his family more than anything. They were his greatest joy and the most treasured part of his life. His love, warmth, and easygoing nature touched the lives of many, and he will be remembered not only for the life he lived, but for the love he gave, the friendships he formed, and the countless memories he leaves behind.

John was preceded in death by his parents; siblings: infant Charles Walker, Jerome Walker, Edward Walker, Paul Walker, Mary Lou Lockhart, Betty Shea, Loretta Withem, Helen Steeb, and Kay Petroff.
