Joan Kapp, age 79, of Santa Claus

Joan Kapp, age 79, of Santa Claus, passed away at 1:52 p.m., Friday, September 4, 2026, surrounded by her family at home.


She was born on February 18, 1947, in Lincoln City, Indiana, to Clell and Mary Ellen (Wangler) Spurlock. She faithfully attended Faith Community Church of the Nazarene in Huntingburg, where she participated in the Dare to Care card ministry and was devoted to the church’s prayer chain.  Joan enjoyed going for rides, watching older westerns and playing wild rummy.


She was preceded in death by her parents; and five siblings, James E., Loren T., Elwood, LeRoy, Gerald Spurlock.


She is survived by two sons, Chad W. (Jennifer) Kapp of Evansville and Greg (Lynn) Kapp of Dale; five grandchildren, Michaela Dawn, Bryce Wade, Paige Lynn, Brayden Ryan Kapp and Shannon (Doug) Tomey; two great-grandchildren, Nate Napier and Hayden Tomey; three siblings, Mae Evelyn Cooper, Eleanor Rae Cook and Bennie E. Spurlock; and her bonus family, Mary (Jeremy) Schepers and their children, Mitchell, Morgan, Madelyn, Marshall and Molly.


The family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff of Heart-to-Heart Hospice for the compassionate and loving care they provided to Joan during her final weeks.


All services for Joan Kapp will be private with Pastor William Covey officiating.  Burial will take place at Garden of Memories Cemetery in Gentryville.  Rainey Funeral Home in Dale has been entrusted with handling the arrangements.  In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Heart-to-Heart Hospice.  Condolences may be shared online at: www.raineyfuneralhome.com
