Ivan E. Smith, age 70, of Crystal, Indiana, passed away at 2:16 p.m. on Wednesday, October 7, 2026, at home.
He was born in Paoli, Indiana, on December 11, 1955, to Beverly Smith. He married Janet Hall on May 10, 1975.
He was part owner of Infrastructure Systems, Inc. He was in the Operators and Labor Union for 30 years.He enjoyed gardening, fishing, and hunting. In addition, he loved to sing and play guitar, and had previously played in a band.
Surviving is his wife of 51 years, Janet Smith, Crystal, IN, four children, Eric (Misty) Smith, Jasper, IN, Annisa (Mike) Johns, Celestine, IN, Rachel (Josh) Thombleson, Crystal, IN, and Ivan II (Kirby) Smith, Jasper, IN, 10 grandchildren, one grandchild on the way, six great grandchildren, two great grandchildren on the way, two brothers, Doug (Lisa) Gee, Carmel, IN, and Lee (Shannon) Opel, Huntingburg, IN, and two sisters, Tammy (Joe) Mundy, Huntingburg, IN, and Julie Swift, Huntingburg, IN,
Preceding him in death is his mother and two brothers, Rick Gee and an infant, Randall Scott Opel.
A funeral service for Ivan E. Smith will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, October 14, 2026, at the Becher-Kluesner North Chapel in Jasper, Indiana, with burial to follow in Cuzco Cemetery, in Cuzco, Indiana. Pastor Jack Wilson will officiate.
A visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. until the 2:00 p.m. service time at the Becher-Kluesner North Chapel on Wednesday.Memorial contributions may be made to the Dubois County Humane Society.
