Harold E. Kempf, age 89, of Schnellville, Indiana, passed away surrounded by family at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, September 28, 2026, at Deaconess Memorial Medical Center in Jasper, Indiana.
Harold was born in Schnellville, Indiana, on July 9, 1937, to Cornelius and Henrietta (Schaaf) Kempf. He married Joyce L. Huntman, on August 12, 1961, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Schnellville, Indiana. She preceded him in death on November 9, 2016.
He was a 1955 graduate of St. Ferdinand High School and a United States Army Veteran.
He retired after 55 years of being a carpenter for the Union. He was an accomplished carpenter and built the houses for all four of his daughters, in addition to many others in the Schnellville area.
He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church – Divine Mercy Parish, Schnellville Conservation Club, and the Schnellville Community Club.Harold enjoyed fishing, playing cards, going to the casino, and spending time with family and friends, especially his grandchildren.
Surviving are four daughters, Sandra (Keith) Linne, Schnellville, IN, Sara (Scott) Hoffman, Ferdinand, IN, Sharon Stout, Schnellville, IN, and Staci Jacob, Schnellville, IN, 12 grandchildren, eight great grandchildren, two great grandchildren on the way, one sister, Betty Boeglin, Ferdinand, IN, one brother, Tom (MaryAnn) Kempf, Sellersburg, IN, and several nieces and nephews.
Preceding him death besides his wife are eight siblings, C.J. Kempf, Evelyn Conter, Dennis Kempf, Bob Kempf, Richard Kempf, Janie Altman, his twin brother, Earl Kempf and Nancy Herzog.
A Mass of Christian Burial for Harold E. Kempf will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, October 5, 2026, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, in Schnellville, Indiana, with burial to follow in the church cemetery. The American Legion Post #147 will conduct military gravesite rights.
A visitation will be held from 9:00 a.m. until the 11:00 a.m. Mass time at the church on Monday.Memorial contributions may be made to the Schnellville Conservation Club.
