Glen W. Schmitt, age 58 of Jasper

Glen W. Schmitt, age 58 of Jasper, Indiana, passed away peacefully with his wife and children by his side at 4:30 a.m. on Thursday, August 13, 2026 at IU Health Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis. 

Born in Jasper, Indiana on August 9, 1968 to Howard and Mary (Buechlein) Schmitt.   He married Karen Hildenbrand on May 7, 1994 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Jasper. 

He was a 1986 Graduate of Jasper High School. Glen was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Jasper, and the Knights of Columbus #1584 in Jasper. He was a natural born mechanic, working mostly in the automotive field with his last employment as a boat mechanic at the Port of Jasper.   

He was also the family handman and go to person for fixing everything. He enjoyed hanging out in our shop, and always had a new project to work on. He enjoyed grilling and smoking different meats, especially wings, always trying different seasonings and recipes.   

He also enjoyed watching NFL Football and different Netflix series.  He mostly enjoyed spending time with family and dog Bandit at Beaver Lake – boating, swimming and grilling.  Glen always had a great sense of humor, even through the challenges of the last five years.  He will be greatly missed. 

Glen is survived by his wife of 32 years, Karen Schmitt of Jasper, one daughter, Erica Schmitt, Jasper, two sons: Kyle Schmitt, and Nate Schmitt, both of Jasper, his father, Howard L. Schmitt, Jasper, three sisters: Cheri Acton (Bob), Jasper, Cindy Lichlyter (Mike), Jasper, Lisa Brewer (Jeff), Jasper, four brothers: Randy Schmitt (Sherry), Tijeras, NM, Phil Schmitt (Laurie Weinzapfel), Speedway, IN, Tony Schmitt (Linda), Jasper, and Drew Schmitt (Janelle), Jasper, many nieces and nephews, and his beloved dog “Bandit” 

Preceding him in death was his mother, Mary E. Schmitt. 

A Mass of Christian Burial for Glen W. Schmitt will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, August 20. 2026 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Jasper, IN with burial to follow at a later date at Fairview Cemetery in Jasper. A visitation will be held from 3 p.m. until 7 p.m. on Wednesday, August 19, 2026 at the Becher-Kluesner Downtown Chapel in Jasper, and from 10 a.m. until the 11 a.m. service time at the church on Thursday. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Joseph Catholic Church, or a favorite charity.
