David R. Dodson, Jr., age 61, of Jasper

David R. Dodson, Jr., age 61, of Jasper, Indiana, passed away surrounded by family at 2:30 p.m. on Sunday, March 3, 2024, at Memorial Hospital and Health Care Center in Jasper, Indiana.


Dave was born in the U.S. Naval Hospital in Oakland, California, on August 20, 1962, to David R. Sr. and Rose Marie (Jones) Dodson. 


He was a 1980 graduate Waipahu High School, in Waipahu, Hawaii.  He enlisted in the United States Marine Corps in 1979 and attended Boot Camp at Camp Pendleton in San Diego, California.  He was stationed at Marine Corps Base Kaneohe, Hawaii, until April of 1982.  He received the Marine Corps Expeditionary Medal for his participation in the Combat Operation during the Iranian Conflict Crisis.  After his time in the Marine Corps, he moved to Dubois County and worked at Stylemasters, Jasper Wood Products, Druthers in Huntingburg, Jasper Engines, and Ritzy’s.   He then relocated to Harrison County, where he received training at the Indiana Law Enforcement Academy in 1997, and then served at the Harrison County Sheriff’s Department as a reserve officer, dispatcher, sergeant in corrections, deputy sheriff, and then as chief of police of Lanesville, before having to retire due to medical issues in 2004.


Dave was an avid Arizona Cardinals football fan, loved to talk news, politics, and guns, listen to late 60s and 70s music, attend services at the Living Hope Baptist Church in Jasper, and spending time with his cats.


Surviving are his daughter, Kimberly Dodson, Georgetown, IN, daughter of Renee Dodson, two grandchildren, Aleeyah Dodson and Easton Morrow, father and step-mother, David Sr. and Mary Dodson, Jasper, IN, one sister, Kristina Estremera-Mechol, McLoud, OK, three brothers, Leon Kitagawa, Wasilla, AK, Gary Kitagawa, Houston, TX, and Delmir Estremera II, Honolulu, HI, and his best friends, Jamieson Kono, Tacoma, WA, and Jesse Erquiza, Honolulu, HI.


Preceding him in death is his mother, Rose Marie Estremera, and one son, David Dodson III, son of Carolyn Dodson.


A funeral service for David R. Dodson Jr. will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, March 16, 2024, at the Becher-Kluesner North Chapel in Jasper, Indiana.  Pastor James Young of Living Hope Baptist Church will officiate.  The V.F.W. Post #673 will conduct military rites. 


A visitation will be held from 9:00 a.m. until the 11:00 a.m. service time at the Becher-Kluesner North Chapel on Saturday, March 16, 2024.
