David “Pee Wee” Schnell, 59, of Schnellville
David “Pee Wee” Schnell, 59, of Schnellville, Indiana, passed away peacefully on May 25, 2026. Born on April 18, 1967, in Jasper, Indiana, David was the son of the late David and Jeanne Schnell.
David was a hardworking man who took tremendous pride in his work and the life he built around family, friendship, and community. He dedicated his life to Schnell Farms as a farmer and triaxle truck driver, where he especially loved being behind the wheel of the truck representing the family farm. He was also the owner of the Schnell Shine Shop, where his talent and attention to detail led him to polishing work for Lucas Oil.
Known by many as “Pee Wee,” David never met a stranger. His outgoing personality, quick smile, and willingness to help anyone in need made him everybody’s best friend and the person so many turned to when they needed a hand. He had a special passion for helping others facing kidney disease and dialysis, always offering support, encouragement, and understanding to those going through difficult times.
David had a deep love for music and was instrumental in helping establish the local band, The Wildcards, where he shared his musical talents and passion with others. He enjoyed RC racing, ATV riding, fishing, shooting matches, and spending time outdoors. One of his greatest sources of pride was the Schnell Party Barn, where countless memories were made with family and friends gathered together in laughter and music.
Faith and community were important parts of David’s life. He was a member of Huntingburg Church of Christ and proudly served his community as a former first responder and fireman with the Schnellville Fire Department. He was also a member of the Schnellville Development Club, Schnellville Conservation Club, and Birdseye Conservation Club.
David is survived by his loving wife of nearly 39 years, Diane (Braunecker) Schnell of Schnellville, Indiana, whom he married on July 11, 1987; his son, Travis Schnell and daughter-in-law, Stacey Schnell of Fishers, Indiana; sisters, Lynn Thomas of St. Augustine, Florida, Cathy (Scott) Spayd of Schnellville, Indiana, Chris (Rick) Hasenour of Schnellville, Indiana, and Leslie (Eric) Bolte of Ferdinand; stepmother, Mary Lou Schnell, Lebanon, Indiana; 10 nieces and nephews; and 10 great-nieces and great-nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, David and Jeanne Schnell; grandson, Hudson Schnell; paternal grandparents, Lee and Louise Schnell; and maternal grandparents, Gilbert and Mary Jane “Bunny” Metzger.
David’s legacy of friendship, generosity, hard work, and love for his family and community will live on in the hearts of all who knew him.
A funeral service for David “Pee Wee” Schnell will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, May 30, 2026, at the Becher-Kluesner Downtown Chapel in Jasper, Indiana, with burial to follow in Sacred Heart Cemetery in Schnellville, Indiana. Ryan Scherer and Jerry Tackitt will officiate.
A visitation will be held from 2:00-7:00 p.m. on Friday, May 29, 2026, at the Becher-Kluesner Downtown Chapel in Jasper.
