David L. Kemp, age 87, of Huntingburg

David L. Kemp, age 87, of Huntingburg, passed away at 6:40 a.m., on Thursday, June 25, 2026, at his home.

He was born on August 5, 1938, in Huntingburg, Indiana, to Roy and Helen (Underwood) Kemp. On May 24, 1960, he married the love of his life, Mary Alice Mehling, and together they shared 66 wonderful years of marriage.  David was a faithful member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Huntingburg. He found great enjoyment in fishing, golfing, shooting firearms, woodworking and tinkering in his garage. Above all, David cherished his family. He especially loved spending time with them and took great pride in watching his grandchildren grow and celebrate their many accomplishments.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and five siblings, Leroy “Q Ball” Kemp, Gerald “Bub” Kemp, Dorothy “Dot” Neal, Bill “Billy Joe” Kemp and Danny Kemp.

He is survived by his wife, Mary Alice Kemp of Huntingburg; four children, Barry (companion: Carol Schaefer) Kemp of Santa Claus, Kimberly (Charles) Rummel of Holland, Scott (Kelley) Kemp of Jasper and Angela (companion: David Anderson) Frick of Huntingburg; one sister, Peggy Stratman of Jasper; nine grandchildren, Amanda (Josh) White, David “DJ” (Katie) Kemp, Brienna Kemp, Kyle (Erica) Rummel, Morgan Rummel, Chynna (Tyler) Howe, Colby (Tori) Kemp, Colton (Tati) Frick and Caitlyn (Philip Hayden) Frick; and by thirteen great-grandchildren with one on the way.

A funeral mass for David L. Kemp will be held at 11:00 a.m., E.D.T., on Monday, June 29, 2026, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Huntingburg.  Burial will take place at St. Mary’s Cemetery with military graveside rites conducted by the Huntingburg V.F.W. Post #2366 Memorial Detail.  Father Biju Thomas will officiate the mass.
