Clara M. Kreilein, age 89, of Jasper, Indiana, passed away surrounded by family at 10:40 p.m. on Sunday, August 23, 2026, at Deaconess Memorial Hospital in Jasper, Indiana.
Clara was born in Ferdinand, Indiana, on April 26, 1937, to Leo and Mary (Bickwermert) Hoppenjans.
She married Charles U. Kreilein on May 5, 1959, at St. Ferdinand Catholic Church in Ferdinand, Indiana. He preceded her in death on July 27, 2019.
She worked at the Indiana Telephone Corporation as a telephone operator and in the factory at Aristokraft until her retirement.She was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church in Jasper.
Clara enjoyed playing cards and spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren and her great grandson.
Surviving are two sons, Kevin (Dorothy) Kreilein, Huntingburg, IN, and Steven (Charlotte) Kreilein, Ireland, IN, two grandchildren, Brooke Kreilein, Ireland, IN, and Kendall (Cole) Libbert, Jasper, IN, one great grandson, Cody Michael Libbert, and many nieces and nephews.
Preceding her in death besides her husband is one brother, Edwin Hoppenjans and a nephew, Ralph Hoppenjans.
A Mass of Christian Burial for Clara M. Kreilein will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, August 27, 2026, at Holy Family Catholic in Jasper, Indiana, with burial to follow in Fairview Cemetery in Jasper.
A visitation will be held from 9:00 a.m. until the 11:00 a.m. Mass time at Holy Family Catholic Church in Jasper. Donations may be made to Holy Family Catholic Church in Jasper or to a favorite charity.
