Benjamin “Ed” Edward Slaubaugh, 94, of Loogootee

Benjamin “Ed” Edward Slaubaugh, 94, of Loogootee, Indiana, passed away peacefully on Friday, September 19, 2026, at his home with family by his side. 

He was born on September 27, 1931, in Mylo, North Dakota, to Benjamin J. and Anna (Swartzentruber) Slaubaugh. Ed married Loretta Litwiller on November 30, 1954, in Illinois at the Hopedale Mennonite Church, which was officiated by Simon Litwiller. 

He attended Berea Mennonite Church, where he was baptized on December 8, 1946, and continued to live out his faith diligently. He led hymns for years and grew to deeply appreciate the truths found in them. Having lost his father when he was only 12 years old, Ed believed that the love of family was one of life’s greatest blessings. 

Ed was a lifelong grain and livestock farmer that worked hard, stewarding the land with conservation projects and care. He enjoyed restoring antique tractors, excavating, and fishing. Many great family memories were made fishing and enjoying the outdoors with him. He had a good sense of humor and could bring a smile and a laugh to those around him. 

Ed is preceded in death by his parents, Ben and Anna Slaubaugh, his siblings, Nora (Bill) Graber, Edith (Dave) Graber, John Slaubaugh, Aaron (Leona) Slaubaugh, Martha (Ervin) Graber, Frances (Henry) Wagler, Irene Slaubaugh, Doris Slaubaugh, son-n-law, Dexter Swartzentruber, and daughter-in-law, Ramona Knepp. 

He is survived by his wife of 71 years, Loretta Slaubaugh, their children, Wesley (Esther) Slaubaugh, Byron (Norm) Slaubaugh, Sanford (Joyce) Slaubaugh, Yvonne (Russ) Miller, Juanita (Wendell) Lengacher, Elaine Slaubaugh, Lynette (Nathaniel) Yoder, 28 grandchildren, 49 great- grandchildren, and multiple step grandchildren. 

 Visitation will be held on Thursday, September 24, 2026, from 2:00 P.M until 4:00 P.M and then resume from 5:00 P.M until 8:00 P.M at Berea Mennonite Church. Friends may also visit on Friday morning from 9:00 A.M until the time of service. A funeral service will be held on Friday, September 25, 2026, at 10:00 A.M at Berea Mennonite Church in Cannelburg, Indiana. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
