Beatrice E. “Bea” Knies, age 94, of Celestine

Beatrice E. “Bea” Knies, age 94, of Celestine, Indiana, passed away surrounded by family at 5:40 p.m. on Tuesday, October 13, 2026, at St. Charles Health Campus in Jasper, Indiana.

Bea was born in Celestine, Indiana, on November 6, 1931, to Leo and Anna (Brosmer) Schlachter.  She married Robert Lee Knies on April 25, 1953, at St. Celestine Catholic Church in Celestine, Indiana.  He preceded her in death on August 22, 1988.

She was a homemaker and had worked at Jasper Desk for over 25 years.She was a member of St. Celestine Catholic Church – St. Isidore Parish.Bea enjoyed being outdoors, gardening, her plants, crocheting, making prayer shawls, quilting, and getting together with her group of friends talking and going to eat.

Surviving are four children, Monica Gehlhausen, Jasper, IN, Roxann (Dennis) Uppencamp, Portersville, IN, Robert Jr. (Susanne) Knies, Arlington, TX, and Rodney Knies, Jasper, IN, six grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren, one great-great grandchild, and many nieces and nephews.

Preceding her in death besides her husband are one son-in-law, Mike Gehlhausen, one daughter-in-law, Tracey Knies, one granddaughter, Peyton Knies, eight siblings, Veronica “Fronie” Raufeisen, Ray Schlachter, Leroy Schlachter, Arthur Schlachter, Jerome Schlachter, Tharcilla “Sally” Nordhoff, Helen Kluesner, and Sylvester Schlachter.

A Mass of Christian Burial for Beatrice E. Knies will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, October 21, 2026, at St. Celestine Catholic Church in Celestine, Indiana, with burial to follow in the church cemetery. A visitation will be held from 9:00 a.m. until the 11:00 a.m. Mass time at the church on Wednesday.
