Arlene R. Sermersheim, age 93, of Batesville

Arlene R. Sermersheim, age 93, of Batesville, Indiana, formerly of Jasper, Indiana, passed away surrounded by family at 11:45 a.m. on Friday, June 5, 2026, at St. Andrews Health Campus in Batesville, Indiana.

Arlene was born in Ireland, Indiana, on June 28, 1932, to Leo and Cecilia (Hopf) Schuler. She married Thomas A. Sermersheim on July 3, 1962, at St. Anthony Catholic Church in St. Anthony, Indiana. He preceded her in death on April 30, 1993.

She worked for General Electric and then was a housekeeper for Thomas Habig and Family for several years. She was also a homemaker.

She was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church in Jasper, Indiana, the Ladies Sodality of Holy Family Catholic Church, the Jasper D of I, Dubois County Museum, Women of the Moose, and a former member of the Sunset Home Ec Club.She enjoyed playing cards, especially Bridge. In addition, she loved sports and was an avid St. Louis Cardinals and IU Basketball fan.

Surviving are two daughters, Jill (Tom) Thornsberry, Batesville, IN, and Sandra (David) Ireland, Yucaipa, CA, four grandchildren, five great grandchildren, two sisters, Leola Heeke, Dubois, IN, and Juliann (Kenneth) Kunkler, Jasper, IN, and several nieces and nephews.

Preceding her in death besides her husband are two grandchildren, Erin Thornsberry and Gage Ireland, four brothers, Ivo, Remus, Thomas, and Lloyd Schuler, and three sisters, Lou Schuler, Venita Fleck, and Dora Bickwermert.

A Mass of Christian Burial for Arlene Sermersheim will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, June 15, 2026, at Holy Family Catholic Church in Jasper, Indiana, with burial to follow in Fairview Cemetery in Jasper.

A visitation will be held from 9:00 a.m. until the 11:00 a.m. service time at the church on Monday.Memorial contributions may be made to Holy Family Catholic Church or to a favorite charity.
