Anna Mae Schlachter, age 100, of Jasper

Anna Mae Schlachter, age 100, of Jasper, Indiana, passed away surrounded by family at 10:55 p.m. on Tuesday, October 6, 2026, at Brookside Village in Jasper, Indiana.

Anna Mae was born in Celestine, Indiana, on August 28, 1926, to Frank and Theresia (Nordhoff) Knies. She married her husband of 65 years, Edgar F. Schlachter on October 18, 1947, at St. Celestine Catholic Church in Celestine, Indiana. He preceded her in death on July 21, 2013.

She was a homemaker.

Anna Mae was dedicated in her faith; she and her husband, Edgar were founding members of Holy Family Catholic Church in Jasper, Indiana, and they both volunteered for the Parish in many capacities throughout their years there.  She was a member of the Blessed Sodality at Holy Family and the Jasper D of I.

Anna Mae was an accomplished seamstress and an avid reader.  

In addition, she enjoyed quilting and crocheting, as she made many prayer shawls for the parish; she loved spending time with family and friends. 

Surviving are one daughter, Diane (Alan) Begle, Ferdinand, IN, two sons, Mark (Melissa) Schlachter, Jasper, IN, and Gary (Christine) Schlachter, Apex, NC, seven grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren, and two sisters-in-law, Camilla Buschkoetter, Jasper, IN, and Beatrice Knies, Jasper, IN.

Preceding her in death besides her husband, are one son, Steven Schlachter, four sisters, Sally (Urb) Fuhs, Leona (Rudy) Hulsman, Helen (Hank) Vollmer, and Mary Lee (Ralph) Humbert, and three brothers, Ottie (Stella) Knies, Bob Knies, and Art (Ethel) Knies.

A Mass of Christian Burial for Anna Mae Schlachter will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, October 17, 2026, at Holy Family Catholic Church in Jasper, Indiana, with burial to follow in Fairview Cemetery in Jasper.

A visitation will be held from 4:00-7:00 p.m. on Friday, October 16, 2026, at the Becher-Kluesner Downtown Chapel in Jasper, Indiana, and one hour before the Mass time at the church on Saturday, from 9:00-10:00 a.m.  

The Blessed Sodality and the D of I will pray a rosary at 3:30 p.m. at the funeral home on Friday.
