Alan Louis Mattingly, 67, of Loogootee, Indiana, passed away peacefully on Thursday, April 2, 2026 at Poplar Care Strategies in Loogootee.
Born on August 14, 1958 in Washington, Indiana, he was the beloved son of Norbert and Virginia (Schoultz) Mattingly. He was a life-long member of St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church. Alan was a 1977 graduate of Barr-Reeve High School and went on to earn an Associate of Science degree in Auto Mechanics from Oakland City University. He dedicated 20 years of his life working as a coal miner, where he was especially known for his exceptional bulldozing skills.
Alan lived a life rooted in the country lifestyle enjoying the outdoors. He was an avid coon trapper, enjoyed hunting of all kinds, and loved gardening and farming. Above all, Alan cherished time spent with his family.
Alan was preceded in death by his parents and two siblings: Michael J. Mattingly and Virginia “Sue” Nahler.
Surviving are his children: Alan “A.J.” Jerome (Jessica) Mattingly, Steven (Bridgett) Mattingly, Jacqui Mattingly, Ryan Mattingly, Audrey Mattingly; grandchildren: Tristian Moore, Kailey Mattingly, Paige Mattingly, Carter Mattingly, Tyler Mattingly, Hunter Mattingly, Ashton Mattingly, River Mattingly, Brianna Mattingly, Liam Mattingly, Leah Mattingly, and Joseph Mattingly; siblings: John (Carolyn) Mattingly, Norbert D. Mattingly, Jim (Sandy) Mattingly, Marilyn (Claude) Mattingly, Guy (Jane) Mattingly, Bill (Sally) Mattingly, Ernie Mattingly, Chris (Vicki) Mattingly; brother-in-law Larry Nahler; sister-in-law Brenda Mattingly and several nieces and nephews.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Very Rev. J. Kenneth Walker on Wednesday, April 8, 2026 at 11:00 a.m., at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, with burial to follow at St. Mary Catholic Cemetery Barr Township. Visitation will be held on the same day from 9:00 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. at the Church.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. John the Evangelist Church.
