WOMEN EMPOWERING WOMEN AUGUST EVENT: Confidence Night Out: Self-Defense with Ed Messmer

The Dubois County women's leadership organization, Women Empowering Women (WEW), invites women throughout Dubois County and the surrounding communities to attend Confidence Night Out: Self-Defense with Ed Messmer on Wednesday, August 19, 2026, from 6:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. EST at CrossFit Discipline, 475 Wernsing Road, Jasper, Indiana 47546.

Designed to empower women through education and practical skill-building, this interactive workshop will provide participants with valuable self-defense techniques, increased situational awareness, and greater confidence in everyday life. Unlike a traditional presentation, this event will include hands-on instruction, allowing participants to practice practical self-defense techniques in a safe and supportive environment. Women of all ages and fitness levels are encouraged to attend. No previous self-defense experience is necessary.

Ed Messmer is a 5th Degree Black Belt Master in Tae Kwon Do with 30 years of martial arts experience as an instructor. He has owned and operated the Jasper School of Tae Kwon Do since 2015, where he has taught students of all ages while emphasizing discipline, confidence, and personal safety. In addition to Tae Kwon Do, Ed studies Krav Maga Martial Arts, incorporating practical self-defense techniques into his instruction. Throughout the years, he has led numerous Active Shooter Defense, Trauma, and Introduction to Self-Defense classes throughout the region. During Confidence Night Out, Ed will lead participants through hands-on self-defense techniques designed to increase situational awareness, improve personal safety, and build confidence in real-world situations.

To provide a quality hands-on learning experience, participation is limited to the first 25 women who register. Participants are encouraged to wear comfortable clothing and athletic shoes suitable for light movement.

Advanced reservations are required for members and guests, as the event is expected to fill quickly. Reservations should be made by calling the Jasper Chamber of Commerce at 812-482-6866 or by emailing [email protected] by Friday, August 14, 2026.  The cost for the event is $10.00 per person and is payable at the door.
