Washington police respond to suicidal man with gun

On February 24, 2026, at approximately 6:35 PM, Central Dispatch received a call regarding a male subject in a vehicle at Eastside Park who had a gun & was possibly suicidal. Officers located the subject and attempted to make contact with him. Once that was unsuccessful, Dispatch was able to contact him by phone but he refused to exit the vehicle. The surrounding area was blocked off & the Park was evacuated. Additional Officers with Washington Police Department (ERT), Daviess County Sheriff’s Office (SRU), Indiana State Police, Indiana DNR, Washington City Fire, & DCH EMS responded to the scene. After approximately 3 hours, Dispatch was able to successfully get the subject to discard the firearm & exit the vehicle to be evaluated by EMS. We would like to thank all agencies for their assistance in this matter.
