Wanted Felon Pulls Knife During Arrest

On April 15th, at approximately 6:55 am, Daviess County Sheriff’s Office patrol deputies went to a residence in the 1700 block of River Road to arrest a suspect on felony warrants. Upon arrival deputies were told that the suspect had seen deputies pull into the area and had fled from the out the back door. Deputies observed the suspect hiding behind a tree and as they approached him he began to run away despite being told he was under arrest.

Deputies caught up with the suspect after a brief foot pursuit, but the suspect continued to resist arrest and actively fight. The suspect was forcibly taken to the ground and as deputies were attempting to get him under control, a deputy observed a knife clipped to the suspect’s pants pocket and removed the knife from him. As deputies continued to attempt to place the suspect into custody, he continued to resist and fight and pulled a second knife out creating a substantial risk of serious physical harm or death to the deputies. In response, a deputy utilized an approved vascular neck restraint on the suspect. This caused him to drop the knife, and deputies quickly placed him into handcuffs ending the struggle.

The suspect was taken by deputies to Owensboro Health Regional Hospital for a medical evaluation and to be treated for minor injuries before being lodged in the Daviess County Detention Center. One deputy was also treated for minor injuries at OHRH before being releasee back to duty.
