Traffic Stop Leads to Pursuit, PIT Maneuver, and Arrest on I‑64

On Friday, August 14, 2026, at approximately 3:00 p.m., Trooper Brandon Love conducted a traffic stop near the 119 mile marker eastbound on Interstate 64 after observing a vehicle traveling 83 miles per hour in a posted 55 mph construction zone.

During the traffic stop investigation, Trooper Love determined the driver had a suspended license and allegedly would not provide proof of insurance. After Trooper Love returned to his patrol car to continue the investigation, the driver accelerated from the scene, fleeing the stop.

Troopers pursued the vehicle, and Trooper Love conducted a Precision Immobilization Technique (PIT) maneuver near the 121 mile marker, approximately two miles west of the Sherman Minton Bridge, successfully disabling the vehicle. After the car came to a stop, the driver resisted arrest. Trooper Love deployed his department‑issued taser to de‑escalate the situation, allowing troopers to safely take the suspect into custody.

The driver, identified as Leanna Accardi, 36, of Granite City, Illinois, was transported to Baptist Floyd Hospital, where she was medically cleared before being taken to the Floyd County Jail.

Accardi faces the following preliminary charges:
• Resisting Law Enforcement with a Vehicle, Level 6 Felony
• Resisting Law Enforcement, Class A Misdemeanor
• Repeat Insurance Violator, Class B Misdemeanor
• Reckless Driving Causing Damage, Class B Misdemeanor
