INDIANAPOLIS -- Indiana House Representatives are teaming up with the Salvation Army to help feed thousands of hungry children. Salvation Army Divisional Secretary Major Beth Petrie says the program is especially dedicated to feeding Hoosier children who face food insecurity outside of school hours.

The food drive at the state house last week brought in over five-thousand donated items. Hundreds of backpacks filled with non perishable foods are now being delivered to schools throughout the state.

State officials say one-in-five children in Indiana struggle with eating regular nutritious meals.
