The Next Act announces a 90th Birthday Celebration of the historic Astra Theatre on Friday, April 17.

On April 17, 1936, The Astra Theatre opened its doors for the very first time, screening The Unguarded Hour. Ninety years later to the day, we’re throwing a celebration with live music!

Tickets are on sale now at AstraTheater.com and are $10.

Doors and concessions will open at 6:00 PM on Friday, April 17. Beginning at 6:15 PM,  tours of the historic theatre will be offered, which will be led by board members and staff excited to share their plethora of knowledge about this beloved theatre. 

At 7:30 PM, live 90’s pop classics will be performed by The Unguarded Hour, a band of local musicians named in honor of the film that started it all.

To cap off the evening’s celebration, Star69 will take to the Jim & Pat Thyen Performance Stage to rock this 90th birthday party with a set of live 90’s rock music. 

In addition to sharing the evening with us for this special celebration, the Next Act, Inc. invites you to join us at The Astra Theatre for more of our 2026 performances. These events include comedian Dave Dugan on Saturday, April 18, a solo acoustic show by Ward Davis on Saturday, May 16, and many more. The historic Astra Theatre is located in the heart of downtown Jasper, Indiana. Newly renovated with 357 seats, the Astra has main level and balcony seating with a concessions stand offering snacks and drinks that are available for purchase during the events.
