Suspect Flees on Foot after Pursuit Ends in Three-Vehicle Crash
Four people, including two children and an Indiana State Police trooper, were transported to area hospitals following a pursuit that ended in a three-vehicle crash and an overturned ISP cruiser.
At approximately 8:15 p.m. Friday, Indiana State Police Trooper Wyatt Madden attempted a traffic stop on a black 2015 Chrysler 200 near the 3.4 mile marker on northbound I-65 in Clark County for a missing license plate. The driver accelerated away, refusing to stop, and traveled northbound for about one-half mile before striking a gold 2003 Ford Crown Victoria also traveling northbound.
The incident and crash remain under investigation. Preliminary details indicate that after the initial collision, one vehicle veered into Trooper Madden’s marked cruiser, striking it on the side and causing it to overturn. All three vehicles came to rest in the left lane of northbound I-65 near the 4.4 mile marker, just north of Lewis and Clark Parkway.
An unidentified occupant of the Chrysler allegedly fled the scene on foot, running north from the scene before exiting the interstate on the east side. Trooper Madden extricated himself from the overturned cruiser and detained the suspected driver, 22-year-old Lamyaa Johnson of Louisville, Ky. Troopers and officers from multiple agencies searched for the fleeing suspect, who remains at large as of this release.
Two children from the Crown Victoria were transported to Norton Children’s Hospital in Louisville as a precaution; no serious injuries were reported. The Crown Victoria’s driver was transported to University Hospital in Louisville with minor injuries.
Trooper Madden and Lamyaa Johnson were both taken to Clark Memorial Hospital in Jeffersonville, evaluated, and released. Johnson was then transported to the Clark County Jail and faces these preliminary charges:
• Resisting Law Enforcement With a Vehicle, Resulting in Bodily Injury (Level 5 Felony)
• Reckless Driving (A Misdemeanor)
• Obstruction of Justice (Level 6 Felony)
• Assisting a Criminal (Level 6 Felony)
• Aggressive Driving (A Misdemeanor)
The Indiana State Police Sellersburg Post continues the investigation, with assistance from an ISP Crash Reconstruction team. The left two lanes of I-65 were closed until approximately 11 p.m. Friday.
