State Health Officials Warn of West Nile

AREA WIDE -- Watch for West Nile.  That warning today from Hoosier health officials as mosquitoes have begun testing positive for the virus in Elkhart and Carol counties.

Locally, no mosquitos have tested positive for the West Nile Virus, however, state health officials fear an increase in activity as we get further into mosquito season.

State health officials say Indiana sees West Nile every summer so this isn’t new.

Symptoms of the virus include fever, headache, body ache, swollen lymph nodes and rash.

You can avoid mosquitoes by wearing a repellent with DEET, wear long sleeves when you can, avoid dusk to dawn and make sure there is no standing water on your property.
