St. Meinrad Town Museum, “The Brewery Street Preservatory,” to hold Groundbreaking Ceremony

The St. Meinrad Town Museum, “The Brewery Street Preservatory,” will hold a Groundbreaking Ceremony on Sunday, July 26 at 1:00pm central time, on Brewery Street in St. Meinrad.

The plans are in place for a building to permanently display Marvin “Maddog” Ubelhor’s extensive collection of historical pieces and memorabilia of St. Meinrad.

As many of you may recall, a smaller, temporary display was prepared in 2011 at the American Legion during the town’s Sesquicentennial celebration. That was the only time that a part of the collection has been on display.

Since that time, many people, both local and visitors, have asked to see the display, and it has been Ubelhor’s goal to make that a reality. “The collection needs to be, and will be, put on display permanently for all to enjoy. There will be no admission charge for guests.

Whether you live in the area currently, are a former resident of Spencer County, work here, visit here, enjoy a business that got its start here in St. Meinrad (such as Uebelhor & Sons, Ruxer Ford-Lincoln [former town resident Alvin C. Ruxer also started Jasper Engines & Transmission], Sturm Hardware, and many others), or are family or a fan of a former resident (such as Howard Schnellenberger), many of us have a piece of St. Meinrad in our hearts and in our lives.”

“My hope is that it will become a gathering place for people to come and hang out and a place for those with and without families to come and reminisce,” adds Ubelhor.

All are welcome and encouraged to attend the Groundbreaking Ceremony on July 26.
