Southwestern Indiana Master Gardener Association to Host Annual Plant Sale First Saturday of May

On Saturday, May 4, from 8 am to 1 pm, Southwestern Indiana Master Gardener Association (SWIMGA) will host its annual plant sale at the Vanderburgh County 4-H Activities Center Complex at 201 E Boonville-New Harmony Rd, Evansville. The sale will offer approximately 15,000 perennial and annual flowers for sun and shade, including lots of peonies, hydrangeas, and hostas; native plants and bee- and butterfly-friendly plants; vegetables and herbs; houseplants; and garden treasures. Master Gardeners will be on site to answer questions about plants and how to get involved in SWIMGA.

SWIMGA’s Plant Sale Committee meets throughout the year to plan this large event. Most of the plants sold are raised by SWIMGA volunteers. Many start seeds at home or divide plants from their own gardens. The organization also orders seedlings that are transplanted by SWIMGA volunteers and then raised in their greenhouses at the SWIMGA Display Garden and at UE until they are brought out to the sale.

In operation for over 35 years, SWIMGA has hosted a plant sale since 1999 to raise money for its organization. The proceeds from the sale go toward continued work on SWIMGA’s nearly 20 gardens throughout the region, as well as to hosting educational events in the community.
