SOUTHWEST DUBOIS SCHOOL BOARD MEETING

At the Southwest Dubois School Board’s meeting on Thursday night, the board discussion of business items included the approval of multiple NEOLA updates. INDOT’s offer of $1000 for the 24 square feet of real estate on North Jackson Street was accepted. Staffing recommendations were also accepted and the purchase of 330 student Chromebooks was approved. 

The written agenda also provided some great insights. The Friends of Raider Field Endowment was presented with a grant check from The Dubois County Community Foundation in the amount of $5,329.00. At Holland Elementary, students enjoyed their first Books and Bots Night as they shopped at the book fair, enjoyed a homemade planetarium, and participated in robotics. At Huntingburg Elementary, the Math Bowl Team earned second place at their competition at Lincoln Trail. 

Southridge Middle School 8 th grader Kendra Harris received a State Level Honorable Mention for her Letters About Literature submission. SMS also hosted the Academic Bowl on April 4 th . The 35 students competing from SMS placed in the top five 49 times, with three first place wins by Henry Hiele, Gabriela Gomez, and Chloe Underhill.  

Southridge High School notices included the Regional Academic Bowl, hosted by Southridge, which saw a first-place win in Fine Arts, a second in Science, and third in Math. At the Oakland City University STEM Challenge, a first place win out of 28 teams went to Colton Obermeir, Maggie Rasche, Connie Owens, and Hudson Allen. To date, SHS Seniors have earned $700,000 in scholarships. The school also noted its thanks to the Indiana State Teachers Association for its funding of the National Conference representatives at Educators Rising. 

The board reminded attendees that next month’s meeting is set for May 16 th , and June’s meeting date has been moved to June 11 th . Southwest Dubois County School Corporation regular board meetings are open to the public and are held at 105 W Sunset Dr. in Huntingburg.
