Scott County Man Arrested on Child Molestation Charges

Indiana State Police troopers arrested a Scott County man Friday on multiple felony charges related to the alleged sexual abuse of two minors.

Robert Stewart, 68, of Lexington, Indiana, was taken into custody without incident Friday afternoon, March 20, 2026, at his residence, when troopers from the ISP Sellersburg Post served an arrest warrant issued by the Scott County Circuit Court.

The investigation began in February 2026 after an Indiana Department of Child Services family case manager reported allegations of inappropriate sexual contact to ISP Detective Rob Caudill. Detective Caudill, working with DCS personnel, conducted the investigation, which included a forensic interview of the victims at a local child advocacy center. Following the initial investigation, Detective Caudill provided all information to the Scott County Prosecutor for review.

Following review of the evidence, the Scott County Prosecutor’s Office obtained the warrant charging Robert Stewart with:

• Four counts of child molesting, a Level 1 felony – Defendant is at least 21 years of age.
• Eight counts of child molesting, a Level 4 felony – Fondling or Touching with child under 14.
 Stewart was transported to the Scott County Jail, where he is being held without bond pending initial court appearance.
