Schmitt awarded Aviation Indiana's State Senator of the Year
State Sen. Daryl Schmitt (R-Jasper) was presented with Aviation Indiana's State Senator of the Year award at the organization's annual conference on Tuesday.
Schmitt was presented the award for his work promoting the aviation industry throughout his time in local and state government.
"From award-winning large facilities like the Indianapolis International Airport to small, rural locations like the Huntingburg Airport, Indiana's airports play a vital role in keeping our communities connected to the world," Schmitt said. "Our state's aviation industry ensures people and products get to their destinations safely, and I am always looking for new ways local and state governments can help strengthen this sector to attract more opportunities to Indiana."
During his time on the Dubois County Council, Schmitt worked to secure federal funding for the new Frosty Jones Terminal at Huntingburg Airport.
Earlier this year, Schmitt supported a new law that helps Indiana's aviation industry grow and prosper.
House Enrolled Act 1150 included language that requires local governments to adopt an airport overlay zoning ordinance.
"I am grateful for all the work done within Indiana's aviation industry and the work these companies and airports put in to make our state's economy strong," Schmitt said. "I'd also like to thank Aviation Indiana for this great honor."
Schmitt also encourages constituents to contact him with any questions or comments they may have. Schmitt can be reached by filling out a "Contact Me" form online at www.IndianaSenateRepublicans.com/Schmitt or by phone at 800-382-9467.
