Registration now open for America’s 250th 5K celebration in downtown Washington

Registration is now open for a special 5K run/walk celebrating America’s 250th anniversary, set for Saturday, June 13, in downtown Washington.

The free community event, proudly sponsored by Daviess Community Hospital, will begin and end at the historic Daviess County Courthouse, 300 E. Hefron St. Check-in and on-site registration will take place from 8 to 8:30 a.m., with the race starting at 9 a.m. and concluding around 10 a.m.

Participants will experience a one-of-a-kind route along Washington’s historic brick streets, passing local landmarks and historical markers that highlight the rich heritage of the community. The event will also feature a special photo opportunity at the courthouse, creating a memorable way to commemorate this milestone celebration.

“This event is about more than just a run—it’s about bringing our community together to celebrate our shared history and the spirit of America,” said Beth Gabhart, America’s 250th Daviess County 5K Committee chair. “We wanted to create something that honors where we’ve been, celebrates where we are, and invites everyone to be part of this once-in-a-lifetime moment.”

Participation is free and open to all ages and fitness levels. The first 100 participants to register will receive swag bags, and commemorative medals will be awarded to the first 75 finishers.

Whether running or walking, participants are encouraged to take part in this unique opportunity to celebrate both community pride and a historic national milestone.
