Ray Kissling, age 81, of Huntingburg
Ray Kissling, age 81, of Huntingburg, IN passed away June 26, 2026 at Deaconess Gateway Hospital surrounded by family. Born June 30, 1944, Ray lived a life defined by service, laughter, and a genuine love for people.
On November 16, 1968, Ray married the love of his life, Janet Radke. Together they built a family centered on love, hard work, and countless memories over nearly six decades together.
Ray's greatest pride was his family. He is survived by his devoted wife, Janet Kissling; his sons, David (Allison) Kissling of Huntingburg, Indiana, and their children, Aryonna, Avaley, and Ace; and Roger (Kim) Kissling of Ocoee, Florida, and their children, Taylor and Ryan.
Ray was preceded in death by his parents, Jesse and Violet Kissling, and his brother, Jim Kissling. He is survived by his brothers, Clyde (Sue) Kissling of Holland and Glenn (Connie) Kissling of Huntingburg; his sister, Doris (Jim) Eck of Otwell; as well as many nieces and nephews who will forever treasure his laughter, kindness, and unforgettable spirit.
Ray proudly served his country in the United States Army from August 1965 until July 1967 with the First Infantry Division, the "Big Red One." Stationed in Vietnam, he served in the Transportation Aviation Division as an airplane mechanic, maintaining Mohawk aircraft with skill and dedication.
After returning home, Ray owned and operated the Mobile Gas Station and Mobile Oil Distributorship in Huntingburg. Whether you stopped in for gas, advice, or just conversation, you usually left with a smile - and probably one of Ray's jokes.
Ray dedicated an incredible 55 years of service to the Huntingburg Fire Department, answering the call whenever his community needed him. His commitment to serving others reflected the kind of man he was.
To generations of children and families, however, Ray was known simply as Santa. For 35 years, he faithfully served as one of Santa's helpers, creating magical memories that will live on forever. Those fortunate enough to meet Ray as Santa didn't just meet someone in a red suit - they experienced the kindness, warmth, and joy of what Santa truly represents.
Ray's legacy is one of service, generosity, laughter, and love. He leaves behind a community that is stronger because of his dedication, children who believed in Santa because of his kindness, and family and friends who will forever cherish the joy he brought into their lives.
Though he may no longer be telling jokes from his porch swing or greeting children with a hearty "Ho, Ho, Ho," his spirit will live on in every laugh shared, every act of kindness, and every Christmas filled with wonder.
