Prescribed burn in Crawford Co. TODAY
We are planning to use prescribed fire in the 57 acre Blue Bend Unit in Crawford County today. The unit is southwest of Leavenworth and north of Alton, Indiana.
The primary goal of the fire is to promote, restore and maintain early successional habitats by reducing woody competition and increasing the coverage of native grasses and forbs. Fire is the most efficient tool to accomplish this goal.
The burn unit areas will be temporarily closed to the public for safety. Watch for signs indicating closed areas. If you encounter smoke on the road, slow down and turn on your headlights. More information and links to maps in comments.
