JASPER -- A ribbon cutting ceremony was held Thursday afternoon at the new Fairfield Inn & Suites in Jasper.

It’s the first phase of the future multi-purpose complex which will include retail, commercial and residential space.

"It's a wonderful day," said Mayor Dean Vonderheide.  "It's a great investment in the community.  It's going to make us a better place to come visit, to come stay, to play."

Former Japer mayor Terry Seitz was also on hand for Thursday’s ribbon-cutting.  He was instrumental in getting the project off the ground.

The 84 room hotel began taking guests back in late April, although officials waited until early May to host the official grand opening and preview celebration.
