Ministry with Young Adults Workshop Planned at Saint Meinrad

 

Dr. Thomas Malewitz will lead the workshop entitled “Ministry with Young Adults.” The workshop is designed for any laity or clergy seeking to develop or deepen their engagement with young adults in their faith communities. Participants can join the noncredit workshop for $295 including meals, with optional overnight accommodations available at $100 per room. 
 

Catholic young adult ministry encompasses a formational and pivotal period at the heart of an individual’s life. Typically focused between the ages of 18 and 39, this is a defining, consistently purposeful, and vocationally engaging time in the life of a Christian. Young adults may be single, married, possibly raising young children, and/or engaging the faith for the first time through OCIA. In light of this, ministry with young adults needs to be anchored in community, spiritual growth, and ritual. This workshop will explore guidelines for Catholic young adult ministry, as well as the historical context and current pastoral best practices. From the wisdom of St. John Paul II, Pope Francis, and Pope Leo XIV to the life and example of young witnesses of the faith, this session will offer creative pastoral responses for larger and smaller parish communities to assist in beginning or engaging Catholic young adult ministry. 

 

Dr. Malewitz is an assistant professor and director of the Ed.D. Leadership Program in the College of Education at Spalding University. He possesses an M.T.S. and graduate certificate in Scripture from the Saint Meinrad Graduate Theology Program and a Ph.D. from Bellarmine University. Dr. Malewitz is the author of the Catholic Media Association award-winning book Authenticity, Passion, and Advocacy for Youth and Young Adult Pastoral Ministry. His most recent book, Truth and Reconciliation, explores the model of Servant Leadership as a guide to navigate the current American cultural and political climate.
