Loogootee Streets Could Get a Million-Dollar Makeover

Loogootee is one step closer to smoother streets, as a tight deadline and five bids are putting the city’s ambitious paving project in motion. On Tuesday night, the Loogootee Board of Works held a Special Meeting to open bids for a Community Crossings Matching Grant asphalt paving project.

The first bid was received from E&B Paving from Washington, Indiana. E&B included three addendums and a bond. The total base bid was for $1,480,000.00.

The second bid was from Flynn and Sons Excavating and Paving from Bedford, Indiana. Flynn also provided three addendums and a bond. The total paving estimate was $1,336,076.01.

The third bid was received from Knies Construction in Jasper. It contained three addendums and a bond. The total estimate from Knies totaled $1,384,323.67.

The next bid was submitted by Milestone Contractors, based in Loogootee. They included all three addendums and secured their bid with a bond. The total provided by Milestone was $1,657,750.50.

The final bid was received from SAMM Trucking and Excavating, also based in Loogootee. They referenced all three addendums and included a bond. SAMM’s total base bid was for $1,843,811.00.

The board agreed to let Midwest review the bids and confirm that they are all in order. They will make a recommendation at that time. A decision must be submitted to INDOT before March 1. Midwest confirmed that they will be able to return the award decision, signed and under contract, before the end of the week. Another special meeting will not be necessary, since the board has agreed that the lowest bid that complies with recommendations from Midwest will be accepted.
