Local Candidate Brian Lucchi Seeks Position as Dubois County Circuit Court Judge
Brian Lucchi, a candidate for the Dubois County Circuit Court Judge, recently shared insights into his
background and motivations for running for this important judicial position. A resident of Jasper and a graduate of Northeast
Dubois, Lucchi has a diverse educational background, having earned a bachelor's degree from Wabash College, a master’s
degree from Dallas Theological Seminary, and a law degree from Indiana University.
Lucchi’s journey to law was anything but conventional. After graduating from Wabash College, he took a 16-year detour
before entering law school. “I actually turned forty during law school and my wife had our fourth child during law school, so I
was what you would call a non-traditional law student.”
His work history includes roles as a UPS driver and an assembly line worker. Lucchi believes these experiences have
equipped him with a unique perspective that enables him to connect with a wide range of people. "I sometimes feel more
comfortable talking to non-lawyers than I do to lawyers," he stated.
As a candidate for judge, Lucchi emphasized the importance of balancing accountability and compassion in sentencing.
"But…when the law and the facts call for, say, prison, I will give prison, I will not give a slap on the wrist. But that’s a very
case sensitive decision.”
He also highlighted the responsibilities judges have toward both defendants and victims. "The Indiana Constitution…says in
part that victims of crime shall have the right to be treated with fairness, dignity, and respect throughout the criminal justice
process. So those two things [protecting defendants and victims] are not at odds. We can do them both, and in fact we have
to do them both," Lucchi noted.
Lucchi outlined his vision for the Circuit Court, emphasizing the goal of accountability. "The reason I'm running is to hold
accountable, within the confines of the law, violent offenders, those that have hurt children, career criminals."
With the election approaching, Lucchi encourages the community to become informed about the candidates and the issues:
"This is an office for six years...you’re talking about who do you want to preside over cases involving victims, crimes against
children, domestic violence…That is what’s at stake in this election.”
As he enters the race for judge, Lucchi invites community members to engage with him on social media and urges everyone
to participate in the upcoming elections.
