Kentucky Man Arrest for Driving at Over Four Times the Legal Alcohol Limit in Spencer County

Local Sources - The Indiana State Police - Jasper Post announced the arrest of a Kentucky man driving at nearly four times the legal alcohol limit in Spencer County.


On December 6, 2021, Rockport Police Department was called to a suspicious vehicle in the road way on Base Rd in Spencer County with a subject passed out behind the wheel. 


Captain Jake Phillips made contact with the subject obtaining his license before the male subject took off. The pursuit started off westbound on base road. Trooper Jacob Lauer joined the pursuit at SR 66 and Orchard Rd in Reo heading eastbound towards Rockport. The vehicle was a 2014 Black Nissian Altima. 


The vehicle came to a stop in the parking lot of Old National Bank. The driver was identified as Travis Johnson of Philpot, KY. Johnson had the strong odor or alcohol on his breath. Travis was ran through field sobriety in which probable cause was developed for OWI. Trooper Lauer transported Travis to Perry County Memorial Hospital for a blood draw where the results were .343. 

 Travis was transported to Spencer County Jail without incident. Johnson was charged with: OWI with Prior Conviction, OWI .15 or higher, OWI Endangerment, Resisting Law Enforcement, Reckless Driving, Criminal Recklessness, and Aggressive Driving.
