Child hanging out third-story window, throwing objects, leads to neglect arrest of Jasper woman

Jasper - A Jasper woman has been charged with three counts of neglect after a 911 caller reported a child hanging out of a third-story apartment window and throwing objects.

On Thursday afternoon, Jasper Police arrived to a Dewey Street building on a report of a child hanging out of a third-story apartment window and throwing objects at people below.

Officers determined the apartment to belong to P.J. Perez, 34, of Jasper. Perez had been asleep while in the care of her three children.

Upon entry, it is alleged that the apartment was unclean, and not adequate living conditions for children.

The Indiana Department of Child Services assisted JPD.

On the above date (7/16/2026), at approximately 2:00pm, JPD received a 911 call in reference to a small juvenile hanging out of a third story apartment window. Upon officers' arrival and investigation, it was determined that Perez was asleep while in the care of her three children, two of which are under the age of ten. During this time, the younger two juveniles were hanging out of the apartment's window, throwing objects at people below. This window was located on the third story. Perez' apartment was disheveled, unclean, and determined to not be adequate living conditions for the children. At the conclusion of the investigation, Perez was taken into custody and transported to the Dubois County Security Center, on the above charges. The Indiana Department of Child Services assisted throughout the incident.
